Mulberry is the starting point
Silkworms (Bombyx mori) are moth larvae. Carolina’s culture instructions use mulberry leaves or a prepared silkworm diet. Do not substitute a general cricket or roach food.
Young larvae need suitable tender leaves; older larvae have different handling and space needs. Follow the instructions for the life stage and diet you actually receive.

Check the culture every day
- Check that food remains available and suitable to eat.
- Remove waste and deteriorating food with clean tools.
- Allow enough space as larvae grow; record molts and changes in feeding.
- Follow the prepared-diet maker’s handling and storage instructions.

Record the batch, not a nutrition promise
Keep supplier, arrival date, larval size, diet product or leaf source and changes in the culture together. This page does not claim that silkworms are a complete diet or replace calcium, UVB or an individualized feeding plan.
